Let me start out by saying that I am no stranger to the mental games that can happen during endurance events. I’ve done a couple of Beast OCR events that lasted up to 12 hours overnight, Machete Madness Recon as well as Spartan Hurricane Heats.
Rucking is the foundation of Special Forces training and the “Star Course” is the culminating rucking exercise of Special Forces Selection. You show up with your ruck and you get a list of waypoints. You plot your route, then you start rucking: point to point, mile after mile.
As someone who had only done Spartan Races until the beginning of 2018 I was excited to try new races with different obstacles. I will say that Rugged Maniac was by far the most fun race I have done to date. Everything from the obstacles, venue, and the announcers all just showed that this race was for fun and nothing else.
From deep within the Beasts OCR territory, hundreds of Beasts and other participants flooded (pun intended) into Meadow Wood Equestrian Center in beautiful Snohomish WA for a weekend of Spartan racing.
